Summary, etc. | The present study on "Genetic variability in hyacinth bean [Lablab purpureus (L.) Sweet]" was carried out in the College of Horticulture, Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikkara, Thrissur during the period 1999-2000. The major objectives of the study were to gentically catalogue the available germplasm and to study the genetic variability, heritability, genetic gain, divergence and correlation of different traits with yield. Fourty four accessions collected from different parts of the country were grown in randomised block design with two replications. The 44 accessions were catalogued based on the descriptor for hyacinth bean. Significant differences for the characters days to germination, days to first flowering, days to 50 per cent flowering, days to first harvest, days to final harvest, duration of crop, number of pods cluster", pod length, 100 seed weight, girth of pod, weight of pod, thickness of main stem, length of vine, fruit setting percentage, number of pods plant", yield plot", shelling percentage, days to vegetable maturity, crude fibre and crude protein content of pod were noticed among the accessions. The accession DL-6 was found to be highest yielding and DL-8 was found to be the earliest flowering. The highest genotypic coefficient of variation and phenotypic coefficient of variation was observed for weight of pod followed by number of pods plant", number of pods cluster", fruit setting percentage, number of pods plant" and days to vegetable maturity. Accession DL-6 was identified as the most superior one followed by accessions DL-29, DrAO and DL-66. |
