Abstract: A definite rhizosphere population was found to be establishedin the tobacco plants, within three days of germination of seeds. The population steadily increased with the age of plants till flowering stage, after which there was a gradual decline in all the three groups of microorganisms namely, bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi. The microbial population in the rhizosphere was significantly higher than that in the control soils at all stages of plant growth.
