Effect of application of magnesium and sulphur on the growth, yield and uptake in rice
    (Kerala Agricultural University, 1993) Muralidharan, P; Jose, A I
A field experiment was conducted to study the response of rice to application of magnesium and sulphur in a typical laterite soil, using rice (variety Jyothi) continuously for two seasons. Application of Mg had no influence either on the yield or uptake by the crop. Treatment receiving the application of sulphurbiologically activated by inoculation with Thiobacillus sp. and Aspergillus avomerii gave the maximum straw yield in both seasons of crop and thus a higher total dry matter yield, indicating its influence on the vegetative growth of the crop. While lack of influence of Mg application on the con tent of exchangeable Mg in soil was revealed, application of biologically activated sulphur was found to ensure continued availability of S throughout crop growth.

Effect of micronutrients on the uptake of N, P and K in rice
    (Kerala Agricultural University, 1994) Muralidharan, P; Jose, A I
A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of application of secondary and micronutrients on the uptake of N, P and K by rice continuously for two seasons in 1991. The total N uptake was significantly enhanced by the application of B, Cu and Mo. Application of B had a consistent influence on the uptake of P and K also. Phosphorus and Zn interacted negatively in the soil influencing the uptake of each other by the crop and the decreased P uptake as result of application of Zn indirectly reduced the yield. Antagonism was observed between K and Mg.

Phosphorus and iron adsorption characteristics of acid saline soils of Kuttanad, Kerala
    (Kerala Agricultural University, 1999) Muralidharan, P; Rattan, R K; Datta, S P
An effort was made study [lit.1 phosphorus and iron adsorption characteristic^ of the acid saline soils of Kuttanad, Kerala. Thcrmodynamic parameters of I1 adsorption also were workecl Oul. phosphorus adsorption hv these soils was s;iiislactorily described by Langnmir. [•a'undSitli .nid Temkin equations. Iron adsorpiion did mil follow any of these equalions consistently indicating that adsorption is not a mechanism of inactivation of iron m these soils, .Study of the Ihemiodynaniic parameters revealed thai p adsorption in these soils was spontaneous, endothermic and highly disordered.

Response of rice to application of micronutrients
(Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, College of Horticulture, Vellanikkara, 1992) Muralidharan, P; Jose, A I
A field experiment was conducted to study the response of rice to application of secondary and micronutrients during the first and second crop seasons of 1991. The experiment was conducted at the agricultural Research Station, Mannuthy using rice variety Jyothi and the soil was sandy clay loam in texture. The treatments consisted of the different micronutrients (Zn, Cu, Mn, B and Mo), magnesium, sulphur, a combination of the above said nutrients and stanes Microfood, a micronutrient formulation, in addition to the control with no micronutrients. Application of N, P and K was done uniformly in all the treatments. Soil and plant samples were collected at the maximum tillering, flowering and harvesting stages of the crop for the determination of uptake and availability of nutrients, pH and specific conductance. The continued effect of the application of micronutrient was studied by repeating the experiment in the second crop season with the same set of treatments applied to the same plots. Observations on the morphological and yield characters and yields of grain and straw were recorded in both the seasons of crop growth.
