Item Antholysis in pepper (Piper nigrum L.)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1987) Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, S; Ibrahim, K K; Unnikrishnan Nair, P KItem Comparative genetic variability within the open-pollinated seedlings of certain varieties of black pepper (Piper nigrum L.)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1986) Ibrahim, K K; Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, SItem Correlated responses in yield and certain component characters in pepper (Piper nigrum L.)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1987) Ibrahim, K K; Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, SItem Expression and association of spike characters in black pepper(Kerala Agricultural University, 1988) Ibrahim, K K; Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, SItem Genotype X season interaction and stability parameters in black pepper (Piper nigrum L)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1985) Ibrahim, K K; Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, SGenotype x season interaction and stability parameters for five varieties of pepper for yield was studied at the Pepper Research Station, Panniyur, Jjy utilizing the data recorded over five seasons from 1979-80 to 1983-84. The genotype x season interaction was observed to be significant and a larger portion of it was through the non-linear component. The stability model proposed by Eberhart and Russell (1966) was resorted to in describing the stability parameters of varieties. In this study, the variety Kuthiravaly, was found to be the most stable variety. Panniyur 1 is a high yielding variety especially suited to favourable environments, but can also be considered as more stable variety than Arakkulam Munda, Kalluvally and Balankotta.Item Genotypic and phenotypic correlations among yield and its components in black pepper (Piper nigrum L)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1985) Ibrahim, K K; Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, SData on 28 genotypes of pepper recorded for three seasons, at the Pepper Research Station, Panniyur was utilized to estimate genotypic and phenotypic correfation coefficients in certain quantitative characters in pepper, in general, the characters showed higher genotypic correlation as compared to phenotypic correlation. All the component characters except berry weight were found to be significantly and positively correlated with the yield. On the other hand, berry weight had significant negative association with the yield and other components except spike length. Such relationship observed between pairs of characters will be helpful in planning breeding programmes in this crop.Item Heterosis in Panniyur 1 black pepper (Piper nigrum L.)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1987) Sukumara Pillai, V; Ibrahim, K K; Sasikumaran, SItem N, P and K requirement of black pepper(Kerala Agricultural University, 1987) Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, S; Ibrahim, K KAn experiment, to identify the optimum levels of N, P and K for black pepper was conducted at the Pepper Research Station, Panniyur, Kerala in 33 factorial design completely confounding NPaK2. Analysis of the data collected for eight seasons showed that the economically optimum level of nutrients was 50, 100 and 150g of N, P205 and K20 respectively per vine per annum.Item Occurrence of abortive spikes in pepper (Piper nigrum Linn)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1979) Chandy, K C; Sukumara Pillai, V; Venugopalan Nambiar, P KItem Physico-chemical and microbial studies on some 'Kari' soils of Kerala(Division of Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural College and Research Institute, Vellayani, 1964) Sukumara Pillai, V; Money, N SA study has been made of the morphological, physiochemical and microbiological properties of four typical profiles from the Kari areas of Vaikom Taluk. The soils are black to dark grey in colour, and can be texturally classed as clays or clay-loams. There is an irregular distribution of the soil separates in the profile , suggesting their formation by deposition and sedimentation.Item Physico-chemical and microbiological studies on the kari soils of Kerala(Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikara, 1967) Sukumara Pillai, V; SubramoneyItem Potential of the black pepper cultivar uthirenkotta in the hybridization programme(Kerala Agricultural University, 1988) Ibrahim, K K; Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, SItem Seed germination studies in panniyur-1 black pepper(Kerala Agricultural University, 1993) Ibrahim, K K; Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, SItem Standardisation of period of sampling for foliar diagnosis in pepper in relation to nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium(Kerala Agricultural University, 1984) Sushama, P K; Jose, A I; Sukumara Pillai, VA study was conducted at the College of Horticulture, Vellanikkara to standardise the most suitable season for foliar diagnosis in pepper. The first mature leaf of fruit bearing laterals of Panntyoor 1 pepper vines grown under the NPK fertilizer trial at the Pepper Research Station Panniyoor, Taliparamba. Cannanore district was made use of. The period just before flushing appeared to be the most suitable for the collection of samples intended for foliar diagnosis of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.Item Studies on the effect of 'planofix' application on pepper (Piper nigrum L.)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1977) Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, S; Venugopalan Nambiar, P KA trial was conducted at the Pepper Research Station, Panniyur during 1975 and 1976 with 'Planofix', a proprietary product containing the sodium salt of alpha N. A. A : to see whether the application of the chemical could control spike shedding in pepper caused by physiological disturbances. The chemical was tried at three concentrations of 90, 120 and 150 ppm. Though the application of the chemical was found to be ineffective in controlling spike shedding, it significantly increased the volume and weight of pepper berries, especially at the concentration of 90 ppm. The recovery percentage of dry pepper from green, was slightly increased.Item Time of application of fungicide for control of anthracnose disease of pepper (Fungal pollu)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1987) Unnikrishnan Nair, P K; Sasikumaran, S; Sukumara Pillai, VItem Variability, heritability and genetic advance for certain quantitative characters in black pepper(Kerala Agricultural University, 1985) Ibrahim, K K; Sukumara Pillai, V; Sasikumaran, SData on 28 genotypes of pepper recorded for three seasons, at the Pepper Research Station, Panniyur was utilized to estimate genotypic and phenotypic variability, heritability and genetic advance in certain quantitative characters of pepper. Spike yield and spike number have shown maximum genotypic and phenotypic variability, but lowest values for heritability. Berry weight has shown highest value for heritability and minimum genotypic and phenotypic variability. The character, spike yield was found to produce highest advance in the expression on selection, whereas only a marginal improvement need be expected for berry weight.
