Efficacy of maton rock phosphate as a source of P for acid rice soils
(Kerala Agricultural University, 1994) Policegoudar, P; Sunil Kumar; Suseela Devi, L
To evaluate the efficiency of maton rock phosphate (MTRP) as a source of phosphorus for rice, a field experiment was conducted in farmers' field, Coorg district, Karnataka during kliarif 1989-90 iii terms of grain yield, labile-P in soil and P uptake by the crop. Maton rock phosphate and 25% acidulated MTRP recorded 7.8% and 15.68% increase in yield respectively over SSP as source of P. The physical mixture of MTRP + triple superphosphate (3:1) and 25% acidulated MTRP emerged as the best P sources with respect to grain yield and phosphorus use efficiency though the cost benefit ratio was highest with only MTRP.

Influence of Simazine on the chemical constitution of mature corn (Zea mays L.)
(Kerala Agricultural University, 1979) Suseela Devi, L
The application of simazine increased the per cent of N, Cu and soluble proteins in corn seeds. A significant increase in the amount of total P in corn leaves and inorganic P in corn seeds noticed by application of simazine @ 1.25 and 2.50 kg ai/ha respectively. Uptake and distribution of K was not affected. Increased uptake of Ca was observed and it was uniformly distributed among different parts of plants, whereas Mg distribution was very much affected by herbicide treatment rather than its uptake. Higher concentration of simazine inhibited the uptake of Fe by corn plants, whereas the Mn absorption was increased. Simazine @ 0.625 kg ai/ha. resulted in the accumilation of Cu in corn seeds.

Quality of coirdust composts and their effect on the drymatter yield of maize
(Kerala Agricultural University, Vellanikara, 2001) Surya Rao, P; Suseela Devi, L; Amlan, Datta
Composting of coirdust was done with various organic and inorganic additives in various combinations. Coirdust, which had high C:N ratio (93.77) and L:N ratio (106.0) could be convened to good quality composts with 21.91 to 34.07 C:N ratio and 18.78 to 25.49 L:N ratio. The organic carbon, lignin, cellulose and total phenol content decreased while contents of major, minor and micronutrients increased upon composting of coirdust in all the compost treatments. Coirdust compost charged with garden weeds, gliricidia, rock phosphate and micronutrients along with 50% recommended fertilizer dosage recorded significantly higher drymatter yield over recommended practice. Hence, this super quality compost could be used as an effective component in integrated nutrient management.
