Item Evaluation of brinjal varieties for yield and resistance to bacterial wilt (Ralstonia solan acearum)(Kerala Agricultural University, 2000) Gopalakrishnan, T R; Sally, K Mathew; Singh, P K; Peter, K VComparative performance of brinjal varieties and lines over five years revealed the superiority of SM-141 (Haritha) in terms of yield, quality and resistance to bacterial wilt (Ralstonia solanacearum). This culture produces long, light green and glossy cylindrical fruits, with a mean wilt incidence of 9.38 per cent. SM-141 has non-prickly stem and leaves with white flowers and has a mean productivity of 13.5 t ha"1. Considering its performance in the research stations and in farmers' fields, SM-141 has been released as Haritha for the State of KeralaItem Two new wilt resistant f1 Hybrids in brinjal (Solanvm melongena L.)(Kerala Agricultural University, 2000) Gopalakrishnan, T R; Narayanan Kutty, C; Singh, P KTen wilt resistant and divergent genotypes of brinjal (five purple fruited and five light green / white fruited) were crossed separately and the resulting eight Fj hybrids were evaluated for their performance in a bacterial wilt sick plot at Vellanikkara, Trichur. All the F, hybrids showed high yield potential with resistance to wilt. Based on over all superiority in terms of yield, consumer acceptability and resistance to wilt, two purple fruited hybrids viz., Surya x SM-116 (purple, round to oval) and Arka Keshav x SM-71 (purple, long) were selected and evaluated further for two more seasons. Both the hybrids were resistant to wilt and had a yield potential of 91.31 and 89.07 t ha"1 respectively.
