Line X tester analysis for yield and processing characteristics in tomato
(Kerala Agricultural University, 1995) Alice Kurian; Peter, K V
Combining ability analysis of 15 hybrids (3 lines x 5 testers) and 8 parents in tomato indicated the role(s) of additive gene action for the characters studied, demanding biparental approach and recurrent selection for improvement. Hybrids LE 206 x Ohio 8129 and Sakthi x TH 318 for total solids, Sakthi x HW 208 F and LE 206 x Ohio 8129 for insoluble solids and LE 206 x Ohio 8129 and LE 206 x St 64 for lycopene are promising for improvement of quality traits.

    Combining ability en grain cowpea
    (Kerala Agricultural University, 1996) Jayarani, L S; Manju, P
Combining ability analysis involving two lines, six testers and 12 hybrids revealed the importance of specific combining ability for all the characters except for length of pod and days to flowering. The varieties Chharodi-1, Culture-9, V 26 and GC-82-7 were the best general combiners and the cross combinations Chharodi-1 x V 26, Chharodi-1 x Kanakamani and Culture-9 x V 322 were the best specific combinations for yield and yield attributes under partially shaded upland conditions.

Combining ability analysis in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L| walp)
    (Kerala Agricultural University, 1998) Sobha, P P; Abdul Vahab, M; Krishnan, S
Combining ability was studied in a 10 x 10 diallel cross in cowpea for nine important characters. The variance due to general combining ability and specific combining ability showed both additive and non-additive gene action for plant height, primary branches, days to flowering, pod length, pod weight, pods per plant, seeds per pod, 100 seed weight and yield per plant. Among ten parental lines, Arka Garima, VU-18, Selection 2-1, Section 263, Pusa Komal and Kanakamoni were good general combiners for most of the yield components. The hybrids VU-18 x Arka Garima and Selection 2-1 x VS 389 possessed high specific combining ability effects for yield per plant.
