Chitran Namboodirippad is a writer, educationist and leading social activist in Kerala, India.[1] He is a National Award-winning educationist and also a mountain man who trekked in the Himalayas for the 29th time even at his age of 99.[2]Namboodirippad was honoured by Justice P. Sathasivam, governor of kerala on the occasion of 99th birthday of him. Chitran Namboodirippad is born in an aristocratic Namboodiri illam, Pakaravur Mana, Mookkuthala, Malappuram, on 06 January 1920. Dr Prasad teaches at Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC), Bangalore as Professor of Library and Information Science and at present he is the Head of DRTC, which is India's only proper ischool with a very strong research program. His areas of specialisation include Artificial intelligence-Applications in LIS, Natural language processing, Digital Libraries, Hypertext and Multimedia applications, Institutional repository, Open-source software used in Libraries, Open Access to Information, Semantic Web Technology, Free and open source software etc. His other area of interests are Mythology, Buddhism, Philosophy and Indian History. He is pioneer in the promotion and development of Open-source software used in Libraries and Information Centres in India, Open access (publishing) and Open Access movement. Books help to share the good and bad events that happened in life and even to overcome death. The role of libraries and book festivals to bring authors and books to readers is very large.
