Twelve varieties which were found to be disease free in the preliminary trial were subjected to artificial wilt infection under replicated trials and found that only one variety namely S. melongena var. insanum (wild brinjal) was resistant to wilt. Dipping of seedlings in fresh bacterial ooze just before transplanting was found to be equally effective in inducing the disease compared to the more complicated artificial inoculation methods.Item Note on germinating seeds of pineapple (Ananas comosus merr.)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1976) Gopimony, R; Balakrishnan, S; Kannan, KItem Pollination studies in pineapple varieties(Kerala Agricultural University, 1976) Gopimony, R; Balakrishnan, S; Kannan, K; Gopalakrishnan, Rstudy was undertaken using four varieties of pineapple to find out the time of anther debiscence and flower opening, time interval between various stages of flower development and best time of hand pollination for maximum seed production, i !u- time of flower opening and anther dehiscence in 'Kew* pineapple was found to be between 4 . 1 5 am and S a m The time interval between various stages of flower development was studied and found to be much shorter than those observed under Hawaii conditions. In fruit weight, Kew was found to be far superior to all other varieties except Smooth Cayenne. But in certain other dessert qualities like colour and texture of flesh, flavour, sweetness and T. S. S. varieties like Mauritius, McGregor, Ripley Queen, Queen and Valerabalanga were found to be superior to Kew. The variety Valerabanga was found to show a superior sugar-acid blend as compared to Kew.
