E. S. block, Kerala(Kerala Agricultural University, 1974) Thampi, A M; Menon, A G GA study was conducted with the Presidents and members of the wards of the seven panchayats of the Athiyannoor N. E. S. Block on their role in planning and execusion of Block programmes. The study revealed that a majority of the members always identified and assessed village problems of larger interest, found solutions and gave wide publicity to programmes executed in the Block. But a majority of them only occasionally took responsibilities to execute programmes, considered feasibility and evaluatability of targets and reviewed the progress achieved by the programme of the block. On the contrary opinions and ideas of a sizable percentage of the panchayat members were never shared and they never had timely guidance during the programme planning process. They also never followed a constructive decision making process while planning programmes in their area.Item Differential preference of professional job areas and subject matter of undergraduates in agriculture(Kerala Agricultural University, 1974) Nair, G T; Menon, A G GThe differential preference values for the different subject matter areas and job area were studied for two years. The data were provided by the final year students of agriculture in 1972 and 1973. The analysis of the data revealed that Agronomy had the high preference value foiled by Horticulture, Agrl. Chemistry, Agrl. Botany, Agrl. Extension, Agrl. Economics, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Agrl. Statististics in the order of prefence. Among the different professional job areas research had the highest preference value followed by extension, teaching, cultivation and business in the order of preference.Item Scale to measure the attitude of rural women towards kitchen garden(Kerala Agricultural University, 1975) Menon, A G G; Prema, lThe establishment of kitchen gardens is an important component of the activities of the Applied Nutririon Programme. Popularisation of kitchen garden depends to a large extent on the attitude of rural women towards it. Therefore, an attempt was made to construct a scale to measure the attitude of rural women, participating in the Applied Nutrition Programmes in Trivandrum District, towards kitchen gardens. A draft scale was prepared and modified on the basis of the suggestions made by the experts, field workers, house wives etc. Final selection of the statements was made by administering the draft scale on a random sample of 100 women and critical ratio was found out and the reliability and the content validity of the scale were also determined.Item Investigation into differential attitudes of village women of Kerala towards the applied nutrition programme(Kerala Agricultural University, 1976) Menon, A G G; Prema, lAn investigation in to the differential attitude of village women in Kerala towards the ANP was conducted in the N. E. S. blocks of Trivandrum District, where ANP was implemented 350 participants of the ANP camps formed the respondents of the study. The attitude was measured by using a scale specifically developed by the authors for this purpose. The analysis of the data revealed that the attitude of respondents is generally favourable towards ANP. Education, age, previous knowledge about the programme, previous participation in ANP camps etc. have positive influence on creating a favourable attitude towards the programme. It is also found that favourable attitude is a prerequisite for the effective participation in the ANP.Item Food consumption pattern of the families in Kalliyoor village, Nemom N E S Block(Kerala Agricultural University, 1977) Prema, I; Menon, A G GItem Motivational factors related to the participation of farmers in correspondence course in agriculture(Kerala Agricultural University, 1978) Abdul Rehman, O; Menon, A G GResults of the study indicate that 63.20 per cent participants of age group between 15 and 35 years joined the correspondence course with security motive ie securing a job in the agricultural field on the strength of the certificate of the course. But participants of age group 36 years and above (36.80%) joined the course with the self actualisation motive, ie. to acquire more knowledge about paddy cultivation and thus mastery of the subject. In both the cases, educational background of participants has no significant role in motivation.Item Investigation into the attitude of junior agricultural officers towards high yielding varieties of rice(Kerala Agricultural University, 1979) Menon, A G G; Prema, L; Babu, BItem Differential characteristics of participants AMD nonparticipants of farmers' functional literacy programme(Kerala Agricultural University, 1979) Muraleedhara prasad; Menon, A G GAn attempt was made to study the differential characteristics of participants and non-participants of F. F. L. P. in Trivandrum District, Kerala. Seventyfive participants of F. F. L. P. who were practising rice farmers and 65 non-participant practising rice farmers selected at random formed the respondents for this study. 'F' test was employed to test the significance of the difference of the mean scores of the various characteristics in the two samples. The study revealed that the participants of F. F, L. P. were having higher social participation, more knowledge about improved rice practices and higher use of mass media as compared to the non- participants. Iriter-peisona! locaVrte sources were more frequently used by the non-participants than the participants. Both the participant and non-participants of F. F, L. P. extensively used interpersonal cosmopolite sources and there was no significant difference between the two groups with regard to the use of this source.
