Item Review of research on vegetables and tubercrops okra(Kerala Agricultural University, 1990) Markose Lissy baby; Peter, K VItem Histochemical studies on micro and megasporogenesis in the interspecific F1 hybrid of Abelmoschus Esculentus x A. Tetraphyllus(Kerala Agricultural University, 1992) Suresh Babu, K V; Dutta, O PIn the interspecific hybrid between Abelmoschus csculentus and A. tetraphyllus the developmental stages of male gamete were abnormal. Pollen mother cells underwent normal meiosis and restitution division. The restitution division gave raise to fertile pollen grains. The developmental stages of female gamete were not complete. The study revealed the degeneration of megaspores of the linear tetrad and thus formation of empty ovules. The megaspore tetrads were low in nucleic acids and protein. The sterility of the interspecific hybrid is attributed to break down of entire megaspores.Item Evaluation of F1 hybrids of okra (Abelmoschus Esculentus [L.] Moench)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1994) Suresh Babu, K V; Prasanna, K P; Rajan, SItem Chemical control of red spider mite, tetranychus cinnabarinus (boisduval) on okra(Kerala Agricultural University, 1997) Ambikadevi, D; Samarjit RaiSeven acaricides were tried for their efficacy in controlling the red spider mite on okra, Telranychus cinnaltarinus during kharif seasons of 1990 and 1991. Results revealed fluvalinate (0.005 per cent) and tedion (0.1 per cent) to be superior to other chemicals up to fourteen days after treatment.Item Nutritive value and organoleptic evaluation of thamara venda genotypes (Abelmoschus caillel L.)(Kerala Agricultural University, 2000) Sona Thampi, K; Indira, VNutritive value and organoleptic qualities of 20 genotypes of thamara venda were studied and compared with Pusa Sawani, the commonly cultivated variety. The mean values of fat, calcium, iron and vitamin C were found to be higher in Abelmoschus caillei genotypes than in Pusa Sawani. The mean moisture and protein contents of thamara venda genotypes were comparable with those of Pusa Sawani. Though the crude fibre content of the thamara venda genotypes was lower, the mucilage content was higher than the control variety. Thamara venda genotypes were found to have higher acceptability than Pusa Sawani.
