A comparative study of the chemical characreristics of the upland lateritic
soils and the corresponding lateritic alluvium in the ribbon-valleys of the midland
regions of Kerala State was conducted. The C E C, exchangeable cations, level of
organic matter, total and available nutrients were all found to be low.
