Item Genetic variability and correlation in short duration rice cultivars(Kerala Agricultural University, 1994) Ahmed Regina; Rema Bai, N; Devika, R; Joseph, C AIn order to understand the nature and extent of variability and association of various quantitative characters with grain yield, a field experiment was conducted with 45 short duration rice genotypes at the Rice Research Station, Moncompu. The environmental influence on the different traits was evident from the phenotypic coefficient of variability being higher than the genotypic coefficient of variability. Characters such as plant height, flag leaf area, panicle exsertion, number of grains per panicle and grain yield exhibited moderate to high heritability and genetic advance. Grain yield was found to be positively correlated both at genotypic and phenotypic level with number of productive tiller's per hill, plant height, flag leaf area, panicle length anil number of grains per panicle.Item Genetic analysis of yield and its components in fodder maize(Kerala Agricultural University, 1995) Sreekumar, S G; Suma Bai, D INine fodder maize types were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications during summer 1992 at the College of Agriculture, Vellayani under the AICRP (Forage Crops). Genetic analysis of fodder yield and its components revealed that plant height and plant population recorded high genotypic coefficient of variation, heritability and genetic advance indicating that selection based on these characters will result in improving fodder yield. Highest genotypic correlation was observed between green and dry fodder yield and also between plant population and dry fodder yield. High heritability and high genetic advance observed for plant height indicate additive gene action and the reliability of this character during selection programmes for improving the yield.Item Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] walp)(Kerala Agricultural University, 1998) Sobha, P P; Abdul Vahah, MGenetic variability studies in thirty one genotypes of vegetable cowpea revealed significant difference for all the characters except primary branches. A wide range of phenotypic coefficient of . variation (7.4 to 56.7) was observed. High genotypic coefficient of variation was observed for pod weight (54.6) and pod yield per plant (53.1). All the characters exhibited high heritability (78% to 97%). Heritability and genetic advance were high for pod weight and yield per plant, which can be relied up on for the effective genetic improvement of cowpea.Item Genetic variability in Abelmoschus caillei L.(Kerala Agricultural University, 1999) Reena Susan Chacko; Suresh Babu, K V; Rajan, S; Krishnan, SStudios on parameters of variability, correlation and path coefficient analysis of fruit yield in Abelmoschus caillei L- revealed that characters such as number of branches per plant, number of nodes per plant, plant height and fruit length had maximum coefficient of variation. Higher values of heritahility anil genetic advance were simultaneously estimated for fruit yield per plant and fruits per plant. Yield per plant had hiph positive significant correlation with fruits per plant, fruit length, fruit weight, plant height and number of intemodes on main stem. Path analysis revealed positive direct effect on fruit yield per plant through fruits per plant followed by plant height,
