Abstract
യൂജിന് ഗാര്ഫീല്ഡ് അനുസ്മരണം
കേരള കാര്ഷിക സര്വ്വകലാശാലയില് നടത്തി
സൈറ്റേഷൻ സൂചികയുടെയും ശാസ്ത്ര സൈറ്റേഷൻ പഠന ശാഖയുടെയും ഉപജ്നാതാവായ യൂജിന് ഗാര്ഫീല്ഡ് അനുസ്മരണം കേരള കാര്ഷിക സര്വ്വകലാശാലയില്നടത്തി. ഫെബ്രുവരി 26 നു അന്തരിച്ച അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നിര്യാണത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് നടത്തിയ അനുസ്മരണ പ്രഭാഷണം ശാസ്ത്ര ഗ്രന്ഥകാരനും ഹോര്ട്ടികള്ച്ചര്കോളേജ് ഡീനുമായ ഡോ. സി. ജോര്ജ്ജ് തോമസ് നടത്തി. ഗവേഷണ മേന്മയുടെയും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണങ്ങളുടെയും അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്സ്ഥപനങ്ങളെയും ഗവേഷകരെയും വിലയിരുത്തുന്ന ആധുനിക ശാസ്ത്രം രൂപപ്പെടുന്നതില് യൂജിന് ഗാര്ഫീല്ഡ് വഹിച്ച പങ്ക് വളരെ വലുതാണെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം അഭിപ്രായപെട്ടു.
സര്വ്വകലാശാല ലൈബ്രറി വിഭാഗം മേധാവി ഡോ. എ. ടി. ഫ്രാന്സിസ് അധ്യക്ഷത വഹിച്ചു. നോബല്സമ്മാനത്തിനുള്ള വിലയിരുത്തലുകള്പോലും ഇന്ന് ഈ ശാസ്ത്ര ശാഖയെ ആശ്രയിച്ച് നടന്നു വരുന്നു; ഇന്ത്യയിലെ യു. ജി. സി. അടക്കമുള്ള എല്ലാ ഉന്നത വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ - ഗവേഷണ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളും റാങ്കിങ്ങിനു ഈ രീതി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്, അദ്ദേഹം അനുസ്മരിച്ചു.
കെ. പി. സത്യന്, ഡോ. എന്. ബി. നിഷ, ഡോ. വി. എസ്. സ്വപന, വി. പി. അജിതകുമാരി, എം. കെ. അജയകുമാര്, എം. സൂര്യ തുടങ്ങിയവര് പ്രസംഗിച്ചു. ഇതോടനുബന്ധിച്ചു ഡോ. ഗാര്ഫീല്ഡിന്റ പ്രസംഗങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഡോകുമെന്ററികളും മള്ട്ടീ-മീഡിയ രൂപത്തില് അവതരിപ്പിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി.

Kerala Agricultural University
Kerala Agricultural University has organized a remembrance programme on the sad demise of Eugene Garfield, the father of Citation Indexing System and Science Citation Studies who expired on 26th February 2017, Dr. C. George Thomas, Science writer and Associate Dean, College of Horticulture delivered remembrance talk. Garfield was instrumental in developing the modern branch of science to evaluate the research institutions and scientists on the basis of their research excellence and high impact publications.
Dr. A.T. Francis, University Librarian presided. Even the evaluation and ranking for Nobel prizes are depending science citation studies; and higher education and research institutions, including U.G.C. are using this branch of science for ranking, he added. K. P. Sathian, Dr. N.B. Nisha, Dr. V.S. Swapna, V.P. Ajithakumari, M.K. Ajayakumar, M. Soorya, etc. spoke. Screening of the documentaries and talks of Dr. Eugene Garfield was also organized as part of the programme.
